A B&B for sale in Lozère suits buyers who love wide open country: the granite plateaus of the Aubrac and Margeride, Mont Lozère, the Cévennes valleys and the Méjean and Sauveterre causses cut by the Tarn and Jonte gorges. The Causses and Cévennes are a Unesco World Heritage site for their pastoral landscapes, and the Cévennes National Park covers much of the south. Guests follow the terrain: walkers on the Stevenson Trail and the Way of St James across the Aubrac, canoeists in the gorges, anglers, and families seeking cool summers.
Most properties are restored farmhouses, stone village houses and hamlets, often with land. This page is for buyers of a running or future chambres d'hôtes and for owners planning a sale. Create an email alert (in French) to follow new listings.

Lozère is one of the most affordable entry points in the region: half of all country houses sold for less than €166,850 in 2025, against €210,000 across Occitanie. Tourist-inland municipalities, covering the gorges, Cévennes and Aubrac, show a median of €140,500 over the period, up 11.4% since 2021. A farmhouse large enough for four or five guest rooms, however, often sits above the top-decile threshold of €281,785. With too few local prestige sales, the benchmark is regional, at €640,000, well above most guest houses here.
In the west, the Aubrac around Nasbinals and the Margeride form high summer-grazing plateaus popular with pilgrims and nature lovers, with long winters. In the south, the Tarn gorges from Sainte-Enimie to La Malène and the Causse Méjean draw the busiest summer trade, while Florac opens onto the Cévennes and their chestnut woods. In the east, Mont Lozère and Langogne, near Lake Naussac, lie on the Stevenson Trail. The A75 motorway crosses the west of the department, rail lines serve the Cévennes and Aubrac, and the nearest airports are Rodez, Clermont-Ferrand and Montpellier.
Building materials change with the ground: granite on the Aubrac and Margeride, schist in the Cévennes, limestone on the causses, all under heavy stone-slab roofs that are costly to redo. Check insulation and heating, as spring and autumn guests expect comfort at altitude. The Loi Montagne (mountain planning law) governs building across much of the department, so check with the mairie (town hall) before converting a barn. In the Cévennes valleys and gorges, intense rainstorms cause flash floods, and wooded slopes carry a wildfire risk. Isolated homes almost always have a private septic system, inspected by the SPANC service. A chambres d'hôtes business is limited to 5 rooms and 15 guests at a time, breakfast included, and must be declared at the town hall. See our article on opening chambres d'hôtes (in French).
Lozère prices are among the most moderate in Occitanie, with a country house median of €166,850. A farmhouse can become a B&B for a reasonable purchase price, but renovation, insulation and compliance add up. Our article on the budget for opening chambres d'hôtes (in French) helps you cost the whole project.
Bookings concentrate between May and September, peaking in summer in the gorges. Evening meals for walkers arriving at the end of a stage and hosting hiking groups improve results. Model your figures with our B&B profitability simulator (in French) and ask an accountant to review them.
You buy the property before a notaire, the public official who handles sales, through a compromis de vente (preliminary contract) and then the final deed, and take over the name, clientele and bookings as agreed. Ask for recent accounts, guest reviews, mandatory surveys and the septic inspection. Our buying guide (in French) covers each step.
