These benchmarks frame the market for large residences without describing it entirely: a small village bourgeois house or a chateau sold with 30 ha of parkland fall outside this scope.

In Chambéry, the old town lines up mansions with inner courtyards and stone staircases, while the outskirts hold maisons de maître surrounded by walled gardens. In Aix-les-Bains, nineteenth-century spa tourism left villas with balconies, polychrome brickwork and verandas, facing the lake. In the Combe de Savoie and the Avant-Pays, the stone winegrower's house, with a flat-tile roof, comes with a storeroom.
