From the vineyards to the Vosges ridges, a B&B for sale in Haut-Rhin serves a strongly European clientele. Swiss and German visitors cross the Rhine for Colmar, its Little Venice and the Isenheim Altarpiece at the Unterlinden museum, for Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, Eguisheim and Ribeauvillé, and for the Christmas markets that fill these villages in December. Higher up, the Route des Crêtes, the Grand Ballon and the Munster valley, in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, bring hikers in summer and skiers in winter. Mulhouse adds its car and railway museums, and Neuf-Brisach, a UNESCO-listed Vauban fortress town, guards the Rhine plain.
Properties range from half-timbered winegrowers' houses with cellars and courtyards to Sundgau farmhouses and valley chalets. This page is for buyers of a running guest house, for people planning a conversion, and for owners preparing a sale. To follow Bas-Rhin as well, set up an email alert (in French).

Sales in Haut-Rhin are recorded in the local land register and do not appear in the DVF database, so benchmarks are regional: a €150,000 median for a Grand Est country house in 2025, and €550,000 for a large home over 2021-2025, with nine sales in ten between €371,900 and €892,000. A guest house on the wine route probably sits in the upper half of that range, as village houses are scarce and Swiss demand is strong. Tourist-inland municipalities, up 14.6% between 2021 and 2025, are the reference for the Vosges valleys.
The wine route from Ribeauvillé to Guebwiller, via Colmar and Eguisheim, has the longest season, from spring through the harvest to Advent, but also the highest prices and few properties. The Vosges valleys around Munster, Kaysersberg and the Thur lean towards hiking, cross-country skiing and farm inns, with more affordable purchases. In the south, the Sundgau around Altkirch and Ferrette offers hills, ponds and half-timbered villages close to Basel. EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse, the TGV stations of Mulhouse and Colmar and the A35 and A36 motorways provide access.
In wine villages, check the timber frame, infill and weatherproofing of a half-timbered house; in protected areas, façade work needs the approval of the heritage architect (architecte des Bâtiments de France). In the mountains, the loi Montagne restricts extensions and winter access shapes the business. The south of the department is exposed to seismic risk, and the Ill, Thur and Doller valleys can flood. A chambres d'hôtes business is limited to 5 rooms and 15 guests at a time, breakfast included, and must be declared at the mairie (town hall); above that, public-building safety rules apply. Serving wine at the table d'hôtes requires at least a restaurant licence and a specific permit. Our article on wine and rural tourism (in French) offers ideas.
Without department-level data, start from the regional benchmarks, €150,000 for a country house and €550,000 for a large home, and adjust upwards for the busiest wine villages. Add works, furniture and purchase costs, which our notary fee calculator (in French) estimates. The notaire is the official who handles property sales.
It can if it trades over two seasons, hiking in summer and skiing or Christmas markets in winter, with evening meals to keep guests in. Check accounts, reviews and winter access, then model your assumptions with our B&B profitability simulator (in French) and have an accountant review them.
