Jura draws guests who love the outdoors, and a gîte for sale in Jura benefits from its image as unspoilt mid-mountain country. The Chalain, Vouglans and Clairvaux lakes, the Hérisson waterfalls, the blind valley of Baume-les-Messieurs and the Les Rousses resort offer walking, swimming and cross-country skiing. The Arbois and Château-Chalon vineyards, home of vin jaune, the Salins-les-Bains saltworks, a World Heritage site bring in food and wine lovers.
Typical properties are large-roofed Jura farmhouses, winegrowers' houses in the Revermont with vaulted cellars, character houses near the lakes already set up for guests, and barns to convert. This page is for buyers looking for a house with gîte, for investors in a trading business and for owners preparing to sell. An email alert (in French) sends you new properties in the department.

Jura sits mid-table in the region: €186,000 for a country house in 2025, below Doubs but well above Nièvre. For a gîte, the tourist inland benchmark matters most: a median of €202,500 over 2020-2025, up 40.5% between 2021 and 2025, the sharpest rise of any commune type in the department. Lakeside communes classed as coastal show an indicative median of €173,775, on few sales. A property with several units then moves into the large-home market, where the regional median reached €590,000 in 2025.
The department climbs from west to east. On the plain, the Bresse and the area around Dole offer spacious farms at moderate prices, near the A39 motorway and Dole station, served by TGV high-speed trains. The Revermont, from Lons-le-Saunier to Arbois and Salins-les-Bains, gathers the wine villages and their spring and autumn visitors. The first plateau and lake district, around Clairvaux-les-Lacs, Champagnole and the Petite Montagne, has a strong summer season. The Haut-Jura, from Saint-Claude to Les Rousses, within the Haut-Jura regional nature park, combines Nordic skiing, walking and proximity to Geneva, whose airport brings international guests. The higher you go, the longer the season, but the heavier the heating and upkeep.
Haut-Jura farmhouses keep home, cowshed and barn under one roof, often with walls clad in wooden shingles (tavaillons). In the Revermont, the winegrower's house puts the vaulted cellar downstairs and the living space above, which makes a separate gîte easy to create. The loi Montagne restricts building on the plateaux, and the shores of Lake Vouglans fall under the loi Littoral, so extensions face tighter rules. Karst ground and snow mean checking the water supply, the roof and the private septic system, inspected by the local SPANC service. The law of 19 November 2024 provides for each meublé de tourisme (furnished holiday let) to be registered through a national online service, not yet in place and due to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, and energy performance increasingly governs letting. The optional gîte star rating (in French), from 1 to 5 stars and valid for 5 years, remains a selling point.
The median country house sold for €186,000 in 2025, with one sale in ten above €288,280. A property with several gîtes sits higher, closer to the region's large homes. Add notaire fees, furniture and, for an old farmhouse, insulation.
Summer demand is strong, but the season is shorter than in the Haut-Jura. Returns depend on occupancy, rates, costs and your tax regime, explained in our article on gîte taxation (in French). Test your figures with our holiday rental simulator (in French) and check them with an accountant.
Ask for recent bookings and accounts, each unit's registration number, the surveys and the septic report. If the customer base and website are sold, part of the price may be a fonds de commerce (business goodwill). The compromis de vente, the preliminary contract, comes before the final deed signed with the notaire; our gîte buying guide (in French) covers each step.
