A poultry farm for sale in Hautes-Pyrénées is looked for first on the plain and the hills, where maize and fattened-duck keeping have gone together for generations. The department offers duck units with ranges, a force-feeding room and often a processing workshop, broiler farm buildings run outdoors or under the label rouge scheme, and laying hens geared to short supply chains. These holdings are sent to us by farmers handing over, by agencies specialising in rural property and by notaries, with the building area, the production system and the outlet in place. They stand among the poultry farms for sale in France.

This page brings together what a listing leaves aside: local farmland values, the areas where supply renews, how to read the buildings and their equipment, and the health and administrative duties of a takeover. To prepare a setting-up project, our white paper « Créer une exploitation agricole » (in French) describes the steps, from the agricultural qualification to financing.

Farmland prices around a poultry farm in Hautes-Pyrénées (65) in 2025

Land remains the largest item when buying a poultry farm. According to sales recorded by the French tax administration (DVF, vineyards excluded), the median price of agricultural land in Hautes-Pyrénées (65) stood at €8,219/ha in 2025, with an average of €7,982/ha across 61 sales; 80% of transactions fall between €4,817 and €11,797/ha, against a national median of €5,307/ha.

The SAFER benchmark of land values (2025 figures) puts vacant land and pasture at €7,850/ha (+0.1% year on year, +8.3% over ten years), against a national average of €6,460/ha; land already let sells around 17% lower.

What gives a holding here its worth goes well beyond the parcels. You weigh the rearing buildings and their ventilation, the force-feeding room and its compliance, the workshop, the cold stores, the silos and machinery, the range area genuinely usable, and then the flock in place. Add access to home-grown maize, the goodwill of a farm selling direct, and, for a unit under an integration contract, the regularity of placements and collections. Weigh them against our land price observatory and our financial calculators.

What sets poultry farms for sale in Hautes-Pyrénées apart

From a single poultry house to a complete duck unit

Two families of property sit side by side. On one hand, chicken farm buildings for table birds: frame, insulation, ventilation, heating, feed line, silos, floor and biosecurity entry room, with a fenced grass range for label rouge or organic production. On the other, duck units, which are read link by link: rearing buildings, ranges, a compliant force-feeding room with washable floor and ventilation, and very often a processing workshop with cold stores, autoclaves and a farm shop. A set of buildings recently brought up to standard sells well above a site where the work is still to be done, all the more so since taking over an older unit sometimes means rethinking the whole layout.

The status of the outlet changes everything: a unit working with a producer group is worth first what its contract is worth, whereas a farm selling its preserves at market and in its own shop is worth what its customers and reputation are worth. In both cases, ask what is handed over with the walls: force-feeding equipment, flock, stocks, trading name, customer list. Where the sale includes the dwelling house and maize land, separate those items during negotiation rather than accepting one global figure.

Val d'Adour, the Bigorre hills and the Lannemezan plateau

The north of the department holds most of the activity: the Rivière-Basse and the Val d'Adour, around Maubourguet and Vic-en-Bigorre, combine maize and ducks on deep soils, and that is where complete holdings most often come up. The hills separating the Adour from the Gers offer smaller farms, more affordable land and scattered buildings. The Lannemezan plateau and the Baronnies mix cattle, sheep and farm-scale poultry. In the mountain valleys, towards Argelès-Gazost and the Aure valley, production stays marginal and is aimed at visitors.

Pressure on land is felt mainly around Tarbes and along the main roads, where non-farming uses compete for ground. The further west and south you go, the more prices ease, at the cost of distance from buyers and service providers. For a first purchase, the hills often strike a reasonable balance between budget, area available and closeness to outlets.

Biosecurity, classified installations and handover

Duck units in south-west France have been hit hard by avian influenza episodes, and the requirements that followed now shape the visit: a written biosecurity plan, an entry room, fenced and laid-out ranges, separation of batches, the capacity to house birds indoors, and an up-to-date flock register. Ask for the health history of the site and the veterinary visit reports. Flock size decides whether the unit is merely declared, registered or formally authorised as a classified installation, and the prefecture has to be told when the operator changes.

If the holding processes on site, check the health approval or the exemption that applies, the food safety management plan and the compliance of the premises. Look as well at the spreading plan and manure storage capacity, and at the distances to dwellings, which govern any extension. Finally, rented land passes with the rural lease subject to the landlord's agreement; the sale remains subject to the structures control, the French authorisation regime for taking over farmland, and to SAFER's pre-emption right, two steps to build into the timetable.

The properties shown on this page come from private sellers, rural estate agencies and notarial offices. Narrow by area, by budget or by production to spot the egg farm or the free-range poultry unit that matches your plan, and create an alert to receive new entries in the department. You can also widen out to the poultry farms for sale in Occitanie.
