The Drôme gathers three vineyards in one: the northern crus around Tain — Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage —, the southern corridor of Côtes du Rhône and Vinsobres down to Grignan-les-Adhémar, and the Diois valley with its Clairette. Around Tain-l'Hermitage, every are of slope is contested: Crozes offers the only reasonable entry to the sector's crus, its Chassis terraces still mechanisable. In Provençal Drôme, Vinsobres and the Côtes du Rhône Villages line up complete estates at median values. The Diois, kingdom of clairette, runs on a cooperative economy with accessible altitude land.
