Between the Camargue, the Alpilles, Mont Sainte-Victoire and the calanques, a wedding venue for sale in the Bouches-du-Rhône (13) can rely on two drivers: Provençal weddings, which bring couples from across France and abroad to farmhouses and bastides (country manors), and corporate events fed by the Aix-Marseille metropolitan area. Arles and its Roman monuments, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence, the Aix-en-Provence festival and the Arles photography festival keep the area well known.

Properties of this kind are often large estates of several hectares, sometimes farming or equestrian at first, whose buildings lend themselves to conversion into an event estate with accommodation. This page is for buyers of a wedding venue, for those taking over a seminar venue near Aix or Marseille, and for sellers. Compare with venues in the neighbouring Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Vaucluse.

In the Bouches-du-Rhône, large houses sold for a median €2,254,500 over 2021-2025, slightly below the regional median, at €6,077/m² of living space. An event estate in the Alpilles or around Aix sits in this market, or above it once land, halls and beds are added. The département also has the region's most expensive country houses (€470,700 median in 2025), so even a small hall to create starts high. Pressure on the hinterland shows in tourist inland areas (€544,839), up 29.3% between 2021 and 2025 and now above peri-urban rural areas (€470,000).

Where to buy a wedding estate in the 13

The Alpilles regional nature park and the Arles area hold the most sought-after farmhouses and olive or wine estates for weddings. The Aix countryside, from Sainte-Victoire to the Durance valley, combines bastides and Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence wine estates with nearby corporate clients. The Camargue regional nature park offers bull ranches, marshland and isolated farmhouses for receptions with strong character. On the coast, from Cassis to La Ciotat, the Calanques national park and the loi Littoral (coastal planning law) sharply limit options.

Access is excellent: Marseille-Provence airport, Aix-en-Provence TGV and Marseille-Saint-Charles stations, Avignon TGV just north of the département, and the A7, A8, A54 and A55 motorways. An estate near these routes fills its seminar diary more easily; a remote Alpilles farmhouse sells its setting to couples from spring to autumn.

Farmhouses, bastides and estates: checks before buying

The limestone mas (Provençal farmhouse), with outbuildings, tiled roofs and shaded courtyards, converts well into a hall, but compliance works are heavy. A hall open to the public is an ERP (établissement recevant du public) of type L: capacity follows ERP rules (floor area, use, exits) and the safety commission must give its opinion. Serving alcohol requires a suitable licence and an operating permit; on a takeover, check the licence and its transfer at the mairie (town hall). Outdoor parties call for a noise impact study. The Alpilles, Sainte-Victoire and Étoile massifs face wildfire risk; the Rhône delta and the Durance are flood-prone. An isolated estate usually depends on the SPANC for drainage. Our guide to buying a reception venue (in French) covers these points.

Bouches-du-Rhône wedding venues: FAQ

What does a venue cost in the Bouches-du-Rhône?

For the buildings, large houses sold between €1,097,500 and €4,000,000 (10th to 90th percentile, DVF 2021-2025). A venue's price then depends on land, compliant buildings and the business handed over. Estimate purchase costs with our notary fees calculator (in French).

Can a farm or equestrian estate become a wedding venue?

It is a common route in the Alpilles and the Camargue, but changing the use of buildings and receiving the public must be authorised: ask the mairie about the local plan before signing a compromis de vente (preliminary contract).

What should I check when taking over a trading venue?

Separate the property, conveyed by a notaire (the public officer who handles French property sales), from the fonds de commerce (name, clients, contracts, equipment), transferred under its own formalities. Ask for accounts, signed bookings and deposits, the safety report and the licence status.
