On the edge of the Saumurois and Poitou, Deux-Sèvres keeps a few fringe vineyards: the department's northern tip, around Argenton-l'Église and the Thouarsais, belongs to the Anjou-Saumur area, and a few slopes look toward the Haut-Poitou. A vineyard for sale in Deux-Sèvres is a micro-market backed by the neighbouring appellations.
The sector's appeal is its entry ticket: vines claimable under Saumur appellations, at Poitou farmland prices — one of the Loire Valley's most economical margins.
The Thouarsais, Saumur's march
The slopes of the Thouet and Argenton extend the Saumur tuffeau: chenin and cabernet franc are finding their feet again, carried by a few pioneer estates. Surfaces are modest, often attached to mixed farms.
