From the Saintonge to the islands of Ré and Oléron, Charente-Maritime forms the western side of the Cognac vineyard. The department offers softer entry values than neighbouring Charente, with the same cognac outlet and one extra asset: the coastline, which opens direct sales to the coast's tourist flows.
The department's south-east, around Jonzac and Archiac, belongs to the Petite Champagne: the most valued sector. The broad crescent of Fins Bois and Bons Bois forms the core of everyday supply, while the vines of Ré and Oléron, worked cooperatively, trade on a market of their own, where land faces island residential pressure.
As in Charente, the health of the contract with the trade drives estate value; here it is complemented by exposure to pineau and country wines — more regional outlets, but more flexible when cognac cuts its purchases.
