Champagne's second department by surface, the Aube offers a more affordable entry point than the Marne for anyone seeking vines for sale in Champagne. The Côte des Bar, around Bar-sur-Aube and Bar-sur-Seine, lines up pinot noir slopes on Kimmeridgian marl geologically close to that of Chablis.
Long seen as a growers' vineyard supplying the houses, the Aube has changed status: a rising generation of winemakers now crafts sought-after terroir Champagnes, and Les Riceys remains the only French village holding three appellations. This momentum sustains steady demand for plots, reinforced by houses securing supply.
The vineyard falls into three areas: the Côte des Bar itself, vast and fragmented, the Riceys sector, famous for its still rosé, and the Montgueux outcrop near Troyes, nicknamed the “Côte des Blancs of the Aube” for its chardonnays. Transactions are more frequent and more accessible than in the Marne, at a markedly lower median price.
A careful buyer will weigh slope exposure, the share of steep vines (costlier to work) and the existence of inter-professional contracts, which secure the grape outlet and therefore the plot's value.
