A farmhouse for sale in Finistère (29), a Léon smallholding or a granite barn to convert: the department ranges from the large market-garden farms of the Léon to the small holdings of the Monts d'Arrée. This page brings together the farmhouses, barns and mas for sale in Finistère published on ma-propriete.fr: a Léon farmhouse with greenhouses and market-garden land, a granite barn from the Monts d'Arrée, a Cornouaille farmhouse with outbuildings, a smallholding with pasture for horses.

Below you will find the actual prices of the Finistère rural market, an overview of where to look, from the Léon to Cornouaille, and the points to check before buying a former farm building. If your project is tourism-related, our white paper on setting up a rural gîte will help you cost it.

Country house prices in Finistère in 2025

There are no statistics dedicated to farmhouses and barns: a renovated farmhouse sells like a country house with outbuildings and land, whereas a bare barn or a farm to renovate often sells well below. The most useful benchmark therefore remains the price of country houses.

How much does a country house cost in Finistère (29)? According to DVF data (notarised sales) analysed by the ma-propriete.fr observatory, the median price of a country house in Finistère (29) stood at €215,000 in 2025, with an average price of €225,485 and a median price of €2,072/m² of living space (3,530 house sales in rural municipalities over the year). The price range is wide: 10% of houses sold for less than €118,655 (floor price, 1st decile) and 10% for more than €350,000 (ceiling price, 9th decile). The typical country house here offers 108 m² of living space on an average plot of 2,708 m², i.e. around 0.3 ha.

This market is close to the regional median (Brittany: €210,000) and above the national median (€189,200). Since the second half of 2020, the median price has risen from €167,000 to €215,000, i.e. +28.7%; over one year (2024-2025) the change is +2.4%.

Prices vary widely depending on the type of municipality

A departmental average hides large gaps. A smallholding to renovate, a restored longère with its outbuildings, a farmhouse on several hectares of land or a manor house with parkland do not sell at the same price, and the location matters as much as the building: coastline, tourist area, peri-urban countryside close to a job market or deep countryside. The table below shows the median price of country houses in Finistère (29) by type of municipality (cumulative sales from mid-2020 to 2025) and its change between 2021 and 2025.

What makes farmhouses and barns in Finistère special

From the market-garden Léon to the Monts d'Arrée: two farming worlds, two building styles

In the Léon, in the north of the department, the farmhouse is built in granite, often low and elongated, and comes with large sheds and greenhouses linked to intensive market gardening; the attached land can run to dozens of hectares. In the Monts d'Arrée, in the centre of the department, farms are more modest, built in granite and schist, with a small cowshed, a barn and outbuildings, a legacy of extensive grazing on moorland and peat bogs.

In Cornouaille, to the south, the farmhouse returns to a courtyard layout, with a longère dwelling and farm buildings arranged in an L, often linked to mixed farming. A barn to convert, whatever the area, can become a home or a gîte subject to a change of use, and the surrounding pasture suits keeping horses or a permaculture project.

Areas and towns to look at

Central Finistère, around Carhaix-Plouguer, Huelgoat and Châteauneuf-du-Faou, in the Monts d'Arrée, has the widest and most affordable choice of farms and barns to renovate. The Landerneau area and the Élorn valley, between the Léon and Cornouaille, offer a balance between the Brest job market and a rural setting. Towards Douarnenez, Pont-Croix and the Cap Sizun, Cornouaille farmhouses get closer to the coast.

Near Quimper, Bénodet and the Crozon peninsula, renovated farmhouses and barns are rare and clearly above the departmental average, coastal proximity playing a major role. In the Léon, around Landivisiau and Lesneven, the large market-garden farms are priced more on land quality than on the buildings themselves.

Points to check before buying

Check the building's permitted use under the local plan: in an agricultural zone, only a barn or former shed identified as eligible for a change of use can become a home. Check the roof (slate on older buildings, asbestos-cement sheets common on more recent Léon market-garden sheds), the timber frame and the drainage, which is often not connected to a mains system in rural areas.

If farmland is attached, especially in the Léon where market-garden land is much sought after, ask about any current farm lease and about the pre-emption right of the Safer. In the Monts d'Arrée, also check winter access; the cost of renovating a granite barn generally remains high.
